After the latest Thunderbird update (today 02/20/2019) login to gmail doesn't work.
After updating today to 60.5.1 my login to Gmail doesn't work. Error messages follows.
Sending of password for user xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx@gmail.com did not succeed. Mail server pop.gmail.com responded: Web login required: https://support.google.com/mail/answer/78754

Yes, mine healed itself overnight also. I didn't have the patience to wait until this morning so let Thunderbird automatically set me up a new account using my gmail info. It worked fine once set up. Today they both work. The old and new account which are one and the same. I didn't check to see how the old server parameters compared with the new ones Thunderbird used when setting up the additional account. My wife game up on Thunderbird a year or so ago and simply uses gmail as supplied by Google. I haven't had a lot of issues with Thunderbird in the past and like the extra flexibility/features so will stick with it. At least for a while.

Did you 'allow less secure apps' for your Google account?
Not related to your login problem, if you don't want to be a spam magnet, then you'd better not post your full email address to a public forum.
Yes. Allow less secure apps has been on for a long time. I hadn't changed anything and immediately after the update it would no longer log in.
