Disable addons behaves differently to safe mode

When looking at stories on the BBC news site; any quotes from Twitter do not display correctly - they just display as the word "twitter" (which is a link).

If I restart in Safe Mode, the Twitter citations display correctly (a box with the Twitter post in it).

If I restart in normal mode, and then manually disable all addons (to try and pin down which one is affecting it), they still display incorrectly. Only Safe Mode works.

Why does safe mode and disabled addons behave differently? And how do I find out which addon is causing a problem if disabling them doesn't have any effect?

Thanks.

It's probably because of the content blocking (tracking protection) list. Try to change the list to Standard in options or allow trackers on this specific site.

No effect. Hard to see how it could possibly have any bearing to be honest!

Tried all the settings and allowing everything for the site - no change.

Did you check the Web Console for messages about content?

You also seem to have extensions that can inject JavaScript or CSS code on the web page.

Are you possibly using a userContent.css file in the chrome folder that might affect the appearance of web pages?

Safe Mode disables a lot more than add-ons.

No userContent but I will inspect the console next time there's a page up with the relevant Twitter bits (it's generally only on the "Live" updating stories)

OK - but what? And why does it make a difference to page rendering? And how do I identify what and stop it!  ;-)
