As noted in the subject line of this message, Firefox has been crashing when I close it, and even sometimes (less regularly) in the middle of a session. I get the request to submit information to Mozilla, which I submit each time. The crash report signature is UserCallWinProcCheckWow. In order to try to fix the problem, I've searched for related topics on this forum, which has led me to open FF in safe mode (it didn't crash) and to disable all add-ons in normal mode (it still crashed when I shut it down). I also tried using the default theme but it still crashed. I'm on a laptop using Windows 7. I'm at a loss as to what to do next to fix this problem. Thank you for any ideas!

Since Firefox doesn't crash in safe mode, my bet goes for an add-on or plugin.

Check this page out to make sure you have the most recent versions of your plugins: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/plugincheck/ Update, as necessary.

If it doesn't work, try to unistall all of your add-ons. Then install one by one, to identy which one is causing the problem.

Let us now if it worked =)

Thanks, Riony, but I'm confused. Wouldn't disabling them all accomplish the same thing? That's something I've already tried, with no improvement, but if uninstalling makes a difference, I can do that. As an aside, my plugins and add-ons are all up to date - I checked them just yesterday.

For some reason, the forum thinks that Riony wrote that last post, but it wasn't! Jill

Sometimes add-ons don't revert changes untill they are completely uninstall.

Thanks for this - I'm leaving now for a long weekend and will try your fix as soon as I get back.

Jill, I think I tracked down the problem to Adobe Reader & Adobe Acrobat. Do you have one of those installed? If so, I'm hearing old versions of Reader & Acrobat are causing this crash.

The fix is to update it. Use this link to do that: http://www.adobe.com/go/acrobat_reader_updates

What's weird though is you have the PDF Download add-on and in the reviews someone says you have to disable the Adobe Acrobat Plugin for Firefox first before the add-on will work. Did you disable the Adobe Acrobat or Reader plugin? Because if you didn't that might explain the crashes.

Maybe disabling the PDF Download add-on will help, if updating your Adobe software does not help. --- Edit: D'oh! You said you checked and all your plugins were up to date.

But I just read a bug concerning your crash pointing at either the Google Talk plugin or Adobe Acrobat or Adobe Reader.

Bug 531551 - Firefox 3.6 topcrash @ UserCallWinProcCheckWow] due to old Acrobat Plugin (nppdf32.dll) [[@ nppdf32.dll@0x5e14 ] [[@ xpcom.dll@0x80

They say 9.3.2 fixes this. So do you have version 9.3.2 of Reader/Acrobat?

Sorry I didn't answer sooner, but I was away for a long weekend. To answer your questions, PDF Download has been disabled for some time, and I do have Adobe Reader 9.3.2. In spite of this, the crashes continue. :S

Hi,

We can resolve most of the crashing problem of Mozilla Firefox by restarting Mozilla Firefox in safe mode. Safe Mode is one of the features of Mozilla Firefox browser which enables the user to start the browser without any plug-ins. In normal case, Firefox starts with the plug-ins and extensions enabled in the browser. But safe mode can restrict all the plug-ins and extensions while opening the browser.
