After a day or two, thunderbird won't download messages. If I try to access a POP3 account I get this error message: "An error occurred with the POP3 mail server. Mail server pop.earthlink.net responded: " If I try an IMAP account, I get: "Unable to connect to your IMAP server. You may have exceeded the maximum number of connections to this server. If so, use the Advanced IMAP Server Settings dialog to reduce the number of cached connections."

If I restart the computer, both work fine for a while and then both stop working at the same time. Any ideas?

Are you getting mail on other devices as well? IDevices are notorious for using all available connections and basically resulting in a lockout on other devices
