I have turned on my computer three times recently to check emails and received the following message: "Error with account (xx). The RETR command did not succeed. Error retrieving a message. Mail server mail.eclipse.co.uk responded: Message (xx) expunged."

A total of 4 messages in my Inbox have been deleted in this way. Can anyone help please?

Sometimes an email on server with bad headers or something amiss can cause this to occur. Sometimes it is the webmail Spam folder.

Logon to webmail account via browser. Empty the 'Spam' folder.

In Thunderbird retry the 'Get Messages'

If still no joy: In webmail account, look for the oldest email in Inbox that has not downloaded. Read and move to another folder or better still delete it.

In Thunderbird retry the 'Get Messages'
