Hi everyone.

Today my Thunderbird was updated 102.2.0. Now I keep getting the message : the server does not support the selected authentication method. Please change the authentication method" I have AOL

Before the update the settings were : server: pop.verizon.net , authentication method: 0Auth2 outgoing: smpt.verizon.net, authentication method: 0Auth2.

After the update there is no 0Auth2 in the drop down for the outgoing.

I appreciate any help you can give. thank you Joe

I believe Verizon, being part of AOL, requires an APP password specific to email clients. Your AOL home page security page has info on creating an APP password. Not my specialty, but I am not aware of Verizon using OAUTH authentication. Your best bet is to verify with AOL. Thanks.

David, thank you.

Should I change the authentication to "normal" for both incoming and outgoing before requesting the APP password from AOL?

thanks

I don't know. I do a web search for AOL email settings and many pages pop up. Some say SSL and some say TLS/SSL . a couple say smtp is TLS/SSL and incoming is SSL. But, yes, make a change prior to getting new APP password. I think testing both should go quickly.

Dave,

If I get the AOL APP password, Do I have to use that password to sign into AOL webmail? or do I still use my previous password to sign into AOL webmail?

The APP password is only for use with an email client. Your website password still works online.

David, thank you.

Do I need to use the 2 step verification before I request and APP password, or I can just request the App password without the 2 step verification?

My memory is that you do not, but I'm not an AOL user. I would try for the APP password first.
