Changing Firefox ESR 115.15 to 128.2

more options

I've noticed that after a few months Firefox ESR will go from being one specific version to two different version tracks. Eventually the older track is removed and the newer one is continued until it then splits. Can someone tell me why this happens and is there an easy way to swap over to the current track? I've included an attachment of what i'm talking about.

In early September the Fx 115.15.0esr and Fx 128.12.0esr will be the current ESR versions. When Fx 128.3.0esr and Fx 131.0 is released the older Fx 115 ESR channel will be made EOL with no more updates as the list shows. Unless Mozilla decides to extend updates a while longer, which would be good for Window 7, 8, 8.1 and macOS 10.12, 10.13, 10.14 users.

There is always the versions overlap. The Fx 115.14.0 ESR will get a update prompt to Fx 128.3.0esr if the Firefox user is using Windows 10/11 or macOS 10.15 or later. Fx 116.0 and later versions requires Windows 10/11 and macOS 10.15 or later to run.

You can get Fx 128 ESR now as you can download and install Fx 128.1.0esr from https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/all/#product-desktop-esr as make sure Firefox 128.1.0esr is selected in Which version would you like? drop menu.

Hey thank you for taking time to answer my question. I was able to download and get it installed and everything but I was just wondering why they split it like that. Is it because it contains more updates and stuff than usual?

Firefox ESR is aimed at companies, the overlap is to make it possible for administrators to get enough time to test and setup the new version before switching all users to the new version.

Split in what way? the overlap in ESR versions or in having ESR and Releases?.

ESR is short for Extended Support Release and is normally more for Enterprise users in mind as they like to have longer term stability as ESR only gets allowed security and stability fixes and not new features. Fx 115 ESR was based on the Fx 115 Release while the more current Fx 128.0 ESR was based on the Fx 128.0 Release.

The overlap of ESR versions can be useful for those who like to wait a couple updates before updating to a new major version for example.
