Thunderbird loses IMAP connection
Every time I run Thunderbird, it appears to lose its IMAP connection(s) after 10-15 minutes. I've tried varying the number of cached connections from 1 to 10 with no difference in behavior.
Restarting Thunderbird will restore connectivity temporarily, until the entire process starts over again.
It seems to be correlated to saving a copy of sent messages. The sending process times out while the message is being saved to the Sent folder after the SMTP sending is complete.
Once this happens, new mail doesn't appear, moving mail between folders has no effect, and some (but not all) messages can't be retrieved from the server.

Do you have an antivirus program scanning mail? Sounds to me like you have, it is dropping the ball on send and never picking it up again.
Hmm, that could be it. I've turned off scans on outgoing email. Haven't seen a recurrence in the last 15 minutes, but I'll have to wait and see if the problem recurs. This is another black mark for BitDefender.
And after some more tries, that didn't work. I was getting hangs after changing to inbound scans only, so I went to no scans at all, and it still hangs after 15-20 minutes. I don't think you can blame this on AV software.
A. Are you on version 128.6.0? B. If not, is the problem gone with 128.6.0?
Yes, I'm on version 128.6.0, specifically "128.6.0esr (64-bit)".
It most definitely has the problem. I've restarted it three times in the last hour or two.
