I now have two in boxes with two sent, trash and draft subfolders. E-mails go to one or the other and sometimes both. How do I eliminate one inbox?

You have two separate accounts in Thunderbird for the same e-mail address.

Right-click the second account in the normal folder view of Thunderbird and choose Settings.

In the Account Settings window that comes up, click the Account Actions button on the bottom left and choose Remove account. Click OK on the window.

Perhaps you have two e-mail accounts set up in Thunderbird?

To better help you, please post here a screenshot showing us what you are seeing. How do I create a screenshot of my problem?

Thank you, sorry about the delay - I have been away. Attached is a screen shot showing two inboxes and related folders. I have only one Thunderbird account.
