After Firefox refresh I am encouraged to install dubious .exe file.

I have just refreshed Firefox. Various tabs pop open from different add-ons I've installed. Including one from Google Translator for Firefox, on an external server: http://translatorforfirefox.blogspot.com//p/whats-new.html It exhorts me to install an exe file Translator.exe viz "translator (pass 123).zip" Is this legit?

Don't do it.

Usually during a Refresh your add-ons are removed (Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings), so it is strange that you get such a message. I wonder whether these are coming back through Sync? Interesting.

There are many choices for translation extensions, so I suggest using one that doesn't require installing external software and removing that one. This is the translation extension I use, in case you need a new one (no extra installations required):

By the way, could you share the ID of the extension that launches that page? The IDs are listed on the Troubleshooting Information page. Either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > Help > More Troubleshooting Information
  • (menu bar) Help > More Troubleshooting Information
  • type or paste about:support in the address bar and press Enter

Scroll down to the "Add-ons" header. The extension names and IDs are listed in the table below that. Then you can select and copy the relevant row -- not the entire page, please, that's too much information -- using either Ctrl+c or right-click > Copy and then paste it into a reply. It will be a bit messy, but we're used it.

Thanks. And here ya go: Google Translator for Firefox extension 3.0.3.3 true translator@zoli.bod

Thanks. It looks like you don't really need to download anything else: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/google-translator-for-firefox/
