"Restore Session" is never able to recover my windows and tabs; is there a way to make "Start New Session" the automatic default?

If Mozilla Firefox was not properly closed out when it was last running (e.g. if my system crashed, or if I had to manually turn off power at the box for some reason), when I try to open the application anew, it tries to restore the windows and tabs that were running before the shutdown. The prior session never gets restored, and I end up having to click on the "Start New Session" tab. This wastes time and energy. I'd like the new session to start up automatically. Is there a way to get this to happen?

No. (I had to look up the term to see what it meant!)

You can disable crash recovery.
