System image restore results in incompatible Thunderbird Profile
Following Windows 10 crash, I restored system using a backup image from August 8, 2020. Thunderbird version on the old image 68.12.1. When restarting the system Thunderbird informed that email and profile data were no longer compatible with the older version and to create a new profile. I prefer to not lose my email, account, and address data that resides on a separate HD and unaffected by the WIN 10 sys crash. Can I install the latest Tbird version (78.7.1), which I believe I was running at the time of the crash, and connect it to my saved data? How do I accomplish this?
Thank you,
Terry

Matter resolved by using Troubleshooting Information under the Help Menu. Displaying "about:profiles" revealed the original profile and dataset that was changed to the default. Tbird profiles.ini was modifed manually to point to the original profile.

Probably going to be the easiest way. but if it does not work, there are other ways.
Matt, Thank you for your assistance. I updated TB to version 78.7.1.
I now have a default-release profile that points to the correct TB data directory, which was current pre-system crash. Data in the data directory such as accounts, addresses, and mail is not displaying in TB.
How do I recover the prior functioning profile that was lost in the system restore? Unfortunately, I do not have an external backup copy.
I assume the answer is you cannot recover it. That being the case, how can I connect a new working profile to the existing data? What steps do I need to take to get TB functioning?
Thank you,
Terry
As I mentioned above I am clueless as to how to proceed to restore TB after a system image restore to an older version of TB (68.12.1). The profile didn't function because I assume, the data on a separate drive had been converted to a more recent version that is no longer compatible with the new the old TB version. I updated TB to 78.7.1, but still it would not open or display basic data files like Address Book. I'm not too concerned about my email accounts since all are IMAP. What do you suggest that I do to get TB functioning including recovering the data files?
Thank you,
Terry

just take this away, in future manual editing of profiles.ini could result in you being locked out of your profile. It is no longer as simple as it was and I see it getting more and more complex. So next time use the about:profiles to set the default profile. No mess no fuss and it does work.
