I have had to reinstall my OS, and now with Firefox I don't see the big 'Bookmarks' button I had to the right of the Google search box. This is with icons set to 'Icons'. I use to be able to click 'Bookmarks' and they'd appear in a dropdown, like the "Latest News" feed operates. I can click on Bookmarks button (with the star on it), but that just opens a side pane - not a dropdown that disappears when I've clicked it.

I loaded up Windows 7 and took a couple quick screenshots for you: http://tinyurl.com/3c7ouvs

Also note that it only shows the bookmarks menu button if you are using the Firefox menu button and not the classic menu bar, as it would be quite redundant to have both a button and the bookmarks menu up top that did the exact same thing.

Look at what you have in the toolbar and what's in the customize window (you may need to scroll down). If you have one in the toolbar then the other is probably in the customize window somewhere. If you have a lot of addons installed there may be lots of buttons to look through.

If you have trouble you could just click the "Restore Default Set" button in the customize dialog to reset all your toolbars to the defaults which will also involve putting the bookmarks button you want there. If you had any other customizations to your toolbars you could then change them back again.

The bookmarks toolbar isn't enabled by default in newer Firefox versions but it's still available. If the bookmarks toolbar is hidden the button that was labeled "Bookmarks" will still be shown but will move up to the navigation toolbar and only show with the icon to save space. You can customize your toolbars and add/remove/move any of these buttons as desired.

I know how to add that button, but it just opens a side pane which is...well... a pain! As it's so very easy to 'click' Bookmarks, 'click' Localhost, and 'click' a web site.... the bar then goes and the site opens.

Are you saying I now have to click Bookmarks. Side pane appears. Click the link in the side pane. Then close side pane???

If yes, that's a real step backward.

There's two bookmarks buttons available. The default one is a menu, the other opens the side pane. They're both in the customize toolbar window. The one that's a menu should have a little down arrow on it indicating it's for a menu.

So I got Alt, then right click in the area and select Customise, and select from the list of icons?

I don't see another option for Bookmarks then. Can you please guide me a little more, as it sounds like the right thing.
