I have been using a web site for a long time. Suddenly the user name that is supposed to be stored in my "password/user name" file is not working. I totally deleted the web site from that folder. When I go to log in, it still automatically comes up with an incorrect user name. Example: The correct user name is "abcxyz@gmail.com", but Firefox is coming up with "ab%49gmail.com" All of this even though when I went to the Security tab and have deleted the web site from the file, completely, Firefox still brings up the wrong user name when I go to log in.

You can remove all data stored in Firefox from a specific domain via "Forget About This Site" in the right-click context menu of an history entry ("History > Show All History" or "View > Sidebar > History") or via the about:permissions page.

Using "Forget About This Site" will remove all data stored in Firefox from that domain like bookmarks, cookies, passwords, cache, history, and exceptions, so be cautious and if you have a password or other data from that domain that you do not want to lose then make sure to backup this data or make a note.

You can't recover from this 'forget' unless you have a backup of the involved files.

It doesn't have any lasting effect, so if you revisit such a 'forgotten' website then data from that website will be saved once again.

Have you looked in the password bank and checked the entry? Press the <Alt> or <F10> key to bring up the tool bar. Then Tools > Options > Security. On the bottom right, press Saved Passwords.

Use these steps to remove saved (form) data from a drop-down list:

  1. click the (empty) input field on the web page to open the drop-down list
  2. highlight an entry in the drop-down list with the mouse or cursor Down key
do not click the mouse or press the Enter key
  3. press the Delete key (on Mac: Shift+Delete) to delete the highlighted entry

I tried that and it didn't work. The same entry keeps coming back.

I have also done that and the web site is completely erased from the file, but the problem continues.

As I stated before, I have completely deleted the web site from that folder and the same problem still exists.

Go back to the Passwords Bank. See if the name / password is used anywhere.

i just tried your suggestion. There is no password or user id, not even the web site url, in the "user name/password bank" for that web site. Any other suggestions? Thanks

I only have two things left.

  • Totally remove Firefox, then reinstall.

Thanks. I will try totally removing it and then reinstall.
