I have a similar problem. Can't send, get responses as per images. ("An error occurred with the POP3 mail server. Mail server pop3.nsw.exemail.com.au responded:" and "An error occurred while sending mail: The mail server sent an incorrect greeting: +OK Dovecot ready. (Here there be dragons!)."

My ISP assures me that since I can send using webmail the problem must lie with Thunderbird - I am very doubtful! Any help would be much appreciated.

You should talk to your email provider.

Webmail infrastructure is independent from POP/IMAP/SMTP servers. Therefore, if webmail works, this isn't an indication that there are no other problems.

Thank you. Much as I thought. A friend made a suggestion which I'll follow up - maybe my ISP has tightened up on security (which I'll admit isn't good), so I'll try encription, passwords and anything else that Thunderbird will accept.

I'll report back with news of any success.
