How do I shrink the side margins so that my text automatically wraps to next line?

Right now, the text just runs off the right edge of the screen, rather than wrapping. So to view the text, I have to slide right. It also prints the same way so I miss out on text that's not showing on the screen.

Would you like to send me an example of such a message? Forward it as an attachment.

The last time I looked at one of these, it was due to some bizarre formatting applied by the original sender. Thunderbird was simply obeying the instructions encoded into the message.
