My Firefox home page has a search BUT without the Google icon. Theh page looks just like the normal Firefox home page but it doesn't have the Google icon.

I've tried to set it back to the default but it's still the same. There's a Yahoo bar underneath the Firefox's and I can only do any search using Yahoo's search function.

Please advise how to rectify this problem.

Thanks Kamsani

First, press the arrow in the search bar at the far left. At the bottom, select Manage Search Engines. The engine you want as the default, move it to the top of the list. You can put the engines in any order you want. When you are done, press OK.

Bookmark and use this; Mozilla Search Reset {web link} This add-on is very simple: on installation, it backs up and then resets your search preferences and home page to their default values, and then uninstalls itself. This affects the search bar, URL bar searches, and the home page.

If there is a Yahoo bar, be sure to uninstall uninstall it as well in your extensions list:

  • Tools (or New Fx Menu) > Add-ons > Extensions

Alternatively enter about:addons and go to the Extensions tab, and remove the Yahoo toolbar extension.

Current Firefox versions use the default search engine that is selected in the search bar on the Navigation Toolbar also for searching via the location/address bar and for searching on the about:home page.

What is the value of the browser.search.defaultenginename pref on the about:config page?

You can use the SearchReset extension to reset some preferences to the default values.

Note that the SearchReset extension only runs once and then uninstalls automatically, so it won't show on the "Firefox > Add-ons" page (about:addons).
