I use Google ad opt outs but when trying to install the Firefox one I receive a message that this cannot be installed as it is a corrupt file.

I believe the reason you get that message is that Firefox 43 and higher require that extensions be digitally signed by the Mozilla Add-ons team and Google might not have submitted this one for signature (yet?), so it fails the verification test.

Since that extension only appears to block a few Google cookies, you might be interested in add-ons that take a more comprehensive approach. For example, these are popular (I haven't tried them myself):

Many thanks for these. I've just installed them both so time will tell!

So far, this seems to have done the trick! Once again, very many thanks for helping me to dispose of these irritating things!

Both work well; you could try both but strongly recommend you only use one at a time.

Very many thanks for this advice. Is there any particular reason to use one at a time only?

The risk of conflict is high with two add-ons trying to do the same thing at the same time. This applies to anti-virus products particularly.

Many thanks!
