My bookmarks now open in the sidebar

more options

Hello,

My bookmarks now open in the bookmark sidebar instead of the main window.

I found this archived thread https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/820849 Indeed when look at the bookmarks Properties, the option for loading them in the sidebar is ticked.

This thread says it happens when you click on "add bookmark" or whatever directly on the webpage.

However, that is not the case for me: I entered most of them manually and they did not behave like that before. I should mention that they are all in a folder, and all the other bookmarks not in this folder didn't get the sidebar option enabled. Also I use sync so it might have to do with that maybe.

Regardless of how that "load this bookmark in the sidebar" became check-marked, un-checking that box in Properties will stop that bookmark from being loaded in the sidebar.

I just wanted to report this with potentially relevant details to understand how it happens, so it does not again. This is an annoying bug and it is very tedious to uncheck that box for every bookmark, one by one.

Note that you can create a bookmarks HTML backup and search this file for "WEB_PANEL" in this file.

A possibly quicker way is to use the Library window (Linux: Ctrl+Shift+O or "Show All Bookmarks").

Once you have that folder opened so its contents appear on the right side, you can click the first bookmark, then click the "More" button at the bottom to expose the checkbox there. You should then be able to work your way through the list more quickly.
