In the previous web browsers I have used (or prehaps because it was Windows 7 instead of Windows 8.1), my favourites would automatically save from my browser to the Favourites file in my "C" Drive. This made backing up my bookmarks to an external hard drive extremely simple but I now find Fire Fox does not seem to do the same. Is there any way around this? If FF does not do this, do we know why they do not do it and are there any other browsers that still do?

Firefox doesn't use the Favorites folder like Internet Explorer does. Every other browser that I have used in the last 20 years saved bookmarks in each users own preferences / data storage location, to keep that data private from other persons who might use that computer.

Bookmarks are saved in the places.sqlite file in each users Profile folder. Firefox automatically does bookmark backups; saves 10 daily baclups in the Profile folder - /bookmarkbackups/ folder.

These add-ons can be a great help by backing up and restoring Firefox

FEBE (Firefox Environment Backup Extension) {web link} FEBE allows you to quickly and easily backup your Firefox extensions, history, passwords, and more. In fact, it goes beyond just backing up -- It will actually rebuild your saved files individually into installable .xpi files. It will also make backup of files that you choose.
