For the last three versions 30.0, 31.0, and 32.0 Firefox will not work after updating on my Windows 8.1 laptop. I have tried resetting Firefox to default state, uninstalling and reinstalling, and resetting my TCP/IP stack (which usually fixes the problem). I also have gone to Internet Options in IE 11 and unchecked the automatically detect settings under the LAN connection options and then rechecked it without success. I also have Chrome installed on my machine as a check to see if it lies within the browser or my internet connection.

Internet Explorer 11 is the only browser that works so something seems to be amiss in Firefox.

Chosen solution

I discovered that my Norton Internet Security firewall was blocking the new version of the program. Chrome had auto updated recently too and I believe it too was blocked.
