I had a calendar set up in Thunderbird and now cannot seem to find it. Before I add on Lightening, I need to find that calendar and all of its appointments.

Lightning is the calendar. It's useful to know if it is installed, not installed or disabled. Fixing it may require uninstalling then re-installing it.

Well, I'll check and post what I found. I had the calendar functional previously and only recognized that it wasn't available. I'm concerned that I'll lose all of the appointments I had in it if I have to reinstall it.

Lightning is the calendar add-on for Thunderbird as you have already been told. If you had a calendar in Thunderbird before it was Lightning. The Lightning version has to match the Thunderbird version you are running. Once you get install a matching pair your events should come back.
