What's your computer system and Firefox version?
Please describe the issue fully. What are you doing, what happens . . . . .
Try to start Firefox in Safe Mode to see whether that works.
- Windows: hold down the Shift key while starting Firefox
- Mac: hold down the Options key while starting Firefox

Boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support to see if that has effect in case security software is causing problems.
Firefox stayed the same when started in Safe Mode.
However, it worked fine in Windows 7 Safe Mode. But I already shut all the firewalls and security off and that did not help.
Note that you may only disable the user interface of security software and that the main components can still be running in the background, so disabling might not be enough.
Do a malware check with several malware scanning programs on the Windows computer.
Please scan with all programs because each program detects different malware. All these programs have free versions.
Make sure you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.
