Since the last update, any video I try to play is heavily distorted, and the only colors are shades of green and purple. I have already made sure my drivers are up to date (as best as I know how, at least) and I've already restarted my computer.

No other solutions I have seen on the forum have worked. I will upload some pictures to help.

I attempted to upload a picture, but I am unsure if it worked. I will try again later if it did not.

hi TheDragonWhisperer, we are getting a number of similr reports and are trying to debug this issue. could you try the following two options and report back if either of them works in addressing the issue?:

  • enter about:config into the firefox address bar (confirm the info message in case it shows up) and search for the preferences named layers.mlgpu.enabled & layers.mlgpu.enable-on-windows7. double-click it and change their value to false and restart the browser once.
  • after you've tried the first option, please reset the preferences to their default value again and now switch media.wmf.use-nv12-format to false and see if this helps after a restart...

many thanks!

Well, after I tried the first solution (the layers.mlpgu thing) The videos were still broken, but I then refreshed firefox as detailed on https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/reset-preferences-fix-problems and my videos seem to be working now.

I failed to mention it before, but I am using windows 8 (not 8.1)

I don't know why it worked but it did. I now have to get my preferences back the way they were, but for now it seems that my problem is solved. Thank you.

thanks, in case the problem comes back, please also try to update your amd graphics drivers from https://support.amd.com/en-us/download

Well, the videos are broken again, and apparently AMD no longer supports my operating system (windows 8) so I can't update the drivers.

As I am unable to update to 8.1 due to a long standing glitch that I have never been able to solve, it looks like I'm stuck.

In addition, now that I looked it seems I don't have media.wmf.use-nv12-format on the about:config page at all.

thank for following up. one more thing to try: does the problem go away when you change layers.gpu-process.enable to false and restart firefox once?

more options

Ah, yes. Disabling that option and restarting firefox seems to have worked, let's hope it stays that way this time.

Also, by restart firefox you simply mean close firefox and relaunch the browser, right?

great, thanks for reporting back!
