Firefox crashes during file selection when logged in with Solidworks PDM

Hi,

Whenever I attempt to upload a file or save as, the file selection dialog is immediately unresponsive, then Firefox crashes a few seconds later, and a dialog shows the options to "Debug" or "Close Program".

I'm pretty sure the problem is linked to Solidworks PDM*, because it only occurs when I'm logged in, and not when I'm logged out.

I realize that this isn't the most common piece of software, but I don't think that Firefox should should be crashing in this situation, as other browsers and applications don't crash when showing the file selection dialog.

There's nothing in about:crashes

There are two windows events associated with this, Error 1000 occurs first, then Error 1001 occurs about 2s later. Details below & attached.

Anything I can do to help get this fixed? (I have a workaround for the time being).

  • Solidworks PDM is a client-server Document management system that ties into the file system - the server location appears as a local folder, with extra controls when you're browsing inside it.

In the address bar, type about:crashes<enter>. Note: If any reports do not have BP- in front of the numbers/letters, click it to submit them.

The crash report is several pages of data. We need the report numbers to see the whole report.

Using your mouse, mark the most recent 7 - 10 crash reports, and copy them. Now go to the reply box and paste them in.

As I said above, there's nothing in about:crashes. Image attached.

Then it may be a Windows crash.

Please describe in detail what you were doing and where (webpage).

The crash occurs everytime the file/folder selection dialog appears:

  • Selecting a file for upload
  • Doing "Save Page As"
  • Right clicking on an image and choosing "Save Image As"

Solidworks PDM must be logged in for the crash to occur.

The windows error logs (in the original post) report this as a Firefox crash, and windows explorer doesn't crash while this happens. It's clearly linked to it, and to Solidworks PDM (which intercepts some file system calls when active). But this is a Firefox issue because a failure in this component shouldn't bring down the whole browser, and I haven't encountered any other software which crashes in similar situations.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} by holding down the <Shift> (Mac=Options) key, and then starting Firefox.

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

Start your Computer in safe mode with network support. Then start Firefox. Try Secure websites. Is the problem still there?

Thanks for all your help so far, and sorry for not getting back sooner. I've tried both of these things and still get the crashes.

There's no change when Firefox is started in safe mode.

When windows is in safe mode, the crash simply happens much faster - the "Firefox has stopped working" dialog doesn't appear, and program closes immediately after the file selection dialog appears.
