Add saved bookmarks to new version of Firefox
PC running Windows 10 hard drive failed, rebuild did not have Firefox. I downloaded latest version, but it showed up with older version of bookmarks. Before HD failed had saved a later version in both HTML and JSOP (???), to a thumb drive. How does one replace current bookmarks with the newer version from the back up drive. Did not know that Firefox automatically does back ups. Thanks,

The thumb drive. What files did you save? In some cases, you can just Copy the file into the current profile. But answer my question first.

Fred, Before machine HD failed and then was rebuilt I saved on thumb drive two files: one titled, book marks (withe Firefox logo) of 8489 KB, the other I titled, bookmarks-2021-10-28.json with 863 KB of data. Which one should I use to update to the latest version that I had saved and that I still have and how to proceed, step-by-step, or a link specific to my situation. Thanks, James P.S. Thought at first with entered wrong password to my account, to change said it would delete all settings, including bookmarks. Did not have to do that. I have also saved the Firefox Reset Key, long-- 8 sets of 4 letters and digits.
Hi James, if you used these features --
- Backup to JSON
- Export to HTML
-- these article have the corresponding steps to bring that data into your new installation of Firefox:
- JSON: Restore bookmarks from backup or move them to another computer -- this does a complete replacement of what you have now with what is in the backup file
- HTML: Import Bookmarks from an HTML file -- this may add bookmarks to their original locations OR may place them all in an Imported Bookmarks file at the bottom of the Bookmarks Menu (duplicates can be an issue)
