To not display the built-in Firefox downloads window, Tools > Options > General tab, un-check "Show the Downloads window when downloading a file". See: http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Options+window+-+General+panel

If you have some other download manager installed, you will need to see the documentation for the download manager.
