I am using Firefox 3.6.12 on a Macbook Pro running Mac OSX Version 10.6.4 (Snow Leopard). I am occasionally having a problem with webpage text showing up as hollow upright rectangles (like elongated checkboxes). I have to shut down firefox and restart in order for this to go away. This is problematic in the event I am filling out a multi-page form and I am forced to shut down the program.

This can be a problem with the font cache or the font server.
