After i import the bookmarks, they disappear. I've unstalled firefox and reinstalled it. Now, i just checked my bookmarks along the top bar and they appear again. are they toggled off somewhere?

Installed plug-in's.   ??

After they disappear, i re-import them again and they appear for a bit and then disappear again.

Chosen solution

There is no reason the ordinary bookmarks library should not work, so the normal bookmarks menu alongside the tools menu should work. It is probably fixable, but maybe it is less hassle to use it as it is at present, rather than to investigate the "SEARCH TOOLBAR" issue that I suspect you may have.

The bookmarks toolbar itself can be toggled on and off as a display item.

  • use View -> Toolbars -> Bookmarks toolbar
  • things change a bit with firefox 4, the standard toolbar is not visible by default

I note from your system details there is mention of a SEARCH TOOLBAR, it is possible that whatever that is, some sort of plugin presumably, it is interfering with your bookmarks. (it is probably more common for such things to interfere with search results than bookmarks).

Try to work out exactly what the software is, also try to work out if firefox search functions work properly. Please post back with more information, and maybe see if any of these have useful information

Thanks John99, i got the side bar view to work. The normal Bookmarks tab (by Tools) still doesn't work. it'll just take getting used to using it this way.
