The current Beta version is eating up huge resources and slowing up everything from typing to mousing (the mouse becomes unstable and hard to move where you want it.) So, I want to revert to a release version but don't want to lose history and that kind of thing (i.e., I don;t want to delete the current Beta version of 5.x and start over.) Any suggestions?

Uninstalling the 5.0 beta version and installing the Firefox 4 release should cause any problems, but you can and should always have a backup of your profile data.
