If you are using the Linux builds from Mozilla, probably the easiest place to put it is in /home/username/.mozilla/ where you create a folder plugins there and put it in the plugins folder.

This way any Firefox version installed and even SeaMonkey will make use of it.

flash was working and still works in 3.6 but not in 6 put file in /home/me/.mozilla/plugins now what?

Does it work if you create a plugins folder in the Firefox Profile Folder and place a symlink to the Flash plugin (libflashplayer.so) in that folder?
