using an old bookmark html file

I recently had to format my hard drive and reinstall windows XP. I saved my bookmarks as a html file and I want to replace the bookmark file in the new version of Firefox with the old version so all my old bookmarks show instead of the bookmarks in the new version. How do I do that.

Also, the same with Thunderbird. I saved my address book before I formatted and I would like to put it back in the new version of Thunderbird as the new personal address book and not as another address book. How do I do that without having to copy every address one at a time. When I install the new TB, it offers to import my Outlook Express address book but not my TB address book. This is not very good as I never use OE.

I think these programs are very good and this is the only complaint I have with them. Microsoft makes it very easy to do this, a pity Mozilla makes it so hard.

Thank you for your help,

Allan

You can remove all places.* files (places.sqlite and other places files if present) and remove all .json backups in the bookmarkbackups folder. If those files are missing then Firefox will use the file bookmarks.html, if found in the profile folder, to rebuild the bookmarks.

Thank you for your help. The only trouble is that if I remove firefox and then install a new version, it makes two separate profiles with silly names and I do not know which profile the program is using. Do I actually remove one profile and, if so, which one?

That told me which profile I was using and I deleted it so now when I open firefox again all my bookmarks are back. Thank you very much, sorry for being so slow.
