Neither the search or filter boxes allow me to search an email that was sent to the trash, I am trying to include them in the search. Is there any way to include the trash in the special search?

Chosen solution

Try this, if you know the email was deleted. If not visible, enable the Quick Filter toolbar. 'View' > 'toolbars' > select 'Quick filter Bar'

Select the 'Deleted'/'Trash' folder. Type a word in the Quick Filter search which is likely to return what you are looking for. use the 'filter messages by: to modify results.
