I just started having issues with Thunderbird. When I open it I'm getting the error: Login to server imap-mail.outlook.com with username has failed. I've tried entering my password, no luck. Changed my password and can open my hotmail account in outlook so I know the new password is right, but still no luck in Thunderbird. After too many Retry attempts I get an error in the bottom corner that says something like: the server is offline or may be disconnected (disappears too quick to catch it).

Thoughts on how to resolve?

Thanks, Kevin

I got an email from Microsoft saying my Live.com or Outlook.com email accounts won't be supported in Thunderbird UNLESS I change the settings to OAuth2 in incoming and outgoing server settings.

I even REMOVED the email account and re-added it making sure it was OAuth2.

But for my live.com & outlook.com email accounts I continually get prompts for passwords from Thunderbird. Sometimes I can't even click the RED X at the upper right to shut the prompt down. I just happens over and over until I give it what it wants.

I am tempted to shut down all Microsoft email accounts and switch to Gmail.

I have Thunderbird version 115.12.2 (64-bit) I used Windows 11 23H2 build 22631.3810 Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.22700.1020.0

Any idea how to stop these prompts?

I like Thunderbird much more than any other email program I have ever used, and would like to keep it

Hi, Thunderbird was working fine in the morning, but later in the day, it suddenly stopped downloading messages from my Hotmail inbox and asked for my password again. When I entered my password, I got the following error message:

"Sending of password for user mazyarm@hotmail.com did not succeed. Mail server pop-mail.outlook.com responded: Authentication failure: unknown user name or bad password."

Thunderbird won't sign in to check emails. I also get the message:

"Login to server pop-mail.outlook.com with username mazyarm@hotmail.com failed."

And those are the messages I now get whenever I click on the Get Messages button. However, I am still able to access my Hotmail account directly using the Firefox web browser, so I know that my username and password are not the problem.

Does anyone know what's going on? How do I solve this problem? Thank you, Maz

Just a couple days ago I started having issues with some emails from trusted senders that I never had before. When I open the emails, I get this message that I took a picture of. It's related to Apple messages & someone's iphone. I don't own an iphone & have no clue why this started happening recently. Like I said, it doesn't happen to all my emails, just certain ones. Looking at my picture posted, does anyone have an idea what's going on with this?

I have a Mircosoft live.com email account, using Thunderbird 128.2.3esr as my email app on a home computer running Win10. Got emails from MS about updating to OAuth2 authentification. After changing to Oauth2 in Server Setting Oauth2 would not show up in SMTP server (could receive but not send mail). Following MS instructions I deleted my account and added it back (apparently a big mistake). After a lot of hassle I now have Oauth2 set up on both Server and SMTP & can receive & send email, but I can not see my folders, only the default Inbox, Sent, Trash and Local Folders - Trash & Outbox. View/Folders has "All Folders" checked (& it is grayed out). I had dozens of folders with probably thousands of emails. If I go into my TB profile I can drill down and see the names of folders that were added in the last couple of months, so I think the folders are still in my profile where they should be. Any ideas on how to see my folders?

Running Thunderbird 128.2.3esr under Windows 10, I just noticed something for the first time. I sent a broadcast message to myself, but included four friends under Bcc:. When I got my own copy of the email, from the address on the To: line, I see that the Bcc: list is visible, as shown in the attached image. Is this JUST on my received copy of the message, or is everyone's name 'in the clear?'

Thinking that my outgoing message might have been cached-and-used or something, I went into my Gmail Web account and looked at the message as received by Google's servers. Sure enough, the 'blind' (ostensibly hidden!) names show up there as well, so I'm assuming that the Bcc: function may not be doing its job. Either that, or the primary (To:) recipient sees the Bcc: list in the clear, and listed Bcc: recipients won't, although I don't recall Thunderbird working this way in the past. But if it does, that's okay, just that Windows Live Mail, my previous client, didn't.

Yahoo has made changes recently, supposedly in the name of security, that have had quite the opposite effect for those of us who use Thunderbird for email on shared computers. Before Yahoo's recent changes, Thunderbird would ask users to enter their password before connecting to the email server. This is no longer the case. Now, when logging into Thunderbird, there is no dialog box popping up for entering a password, Thunderbird just automatically connects. This needs to be corrected. Hopefully someone at Mozilla is listening and will take action.

So far, the only work-around I have found has been to go into Account Settings, Thuderbird Preferences, Saved Passwords, and deleting the oauth password that was automatically saved when I jumped through Yahoo's hoops to get my email working again after they implemented their recent changes. This has to be done EACH SESSION and, if this is done, then the next time I want to get my email I have to repeat the process of generating a new oauth token by logging into Yahoo by way of my browser, which will then be saved once again in Thunderbird and will, once again, need to be deleted at the end of the session. This is obviously a colossal PITA.

Someone PLEASE FIX THIS!

Best Buy installed a new hard drive with additional storage capacity on my computer. A lot of stuff got wiped out and had to be re-installed, including Thunderbird. Now, Thunderbird is slow to respond to the server and even simple reply messages can take a minute or longer to send. It takes a long time to get messages, send, etc. What can I do to increase speed? My ISP tells me I have 45 MB of speed [soon to be 300mb] and that something is slowing down the email process, not them. Also, when I forward a message Thunderbird sends all the coded info with the messages that confuses the receipient. For example, if I send a political cartoon, some will delete the message because the cartoon is on the very bottom of the message and all the sending material is first and he thinks the message is a gag of some sort. Messages used to just show the sender and receipient(s) names and topic, not all the unnecessary detail involved in the message itself.

Can you please me with these issues, as I am so frustrated that I am exploring using Gmail or Outlook instead.

Thanks. Jim Maciej jvm1@windstream.net

I know how to add a new contact to address list so don't need that again - that is the advice I'm given every time I try and find an answer on line - from your web site also. My problem is, that after entering new contact name and other details, the entry box for the email address(bottom of the list) is hidden (or the panel which holds those details is too narrow to allow for the email entry box to show.??). With the occasional problems I have, and the time spent sorting them out, I'm starting to think of installing another mail program. I will appreciate any advice you can give. Hello,

Even though [replied in another similar thread] that I have the same issue, I'm making another one 'cause it seems pretty dead.

Since ver 128 Nebula, some mails (sorted in a labeled folder) appear totally white / blank and I don't know why. They appear perfectly fine when viewed from my provider's webmail service (Gandi SOGo), but not in Thunderbird. But here's the thing: they appear fine from the sent folder after I replied to them (via the webmail).

I've already tried restarting in safe mode with all modules disabled, to no success.

Hello,

In Thunderbird I created many filters too get my incoming mails organized. The majority of my incoming mails are re-directed to sub-maps within 'Local Folders.

I sometimes want to know to which map I re-directed incoming mails, and open the related filter definition. As path indication I unfortunately I can only find the word 'Local Folders' (which is right), but not the full path to which messages are re-directed. Can somebody please provide me a solution, thanks?

My Thunderbird version is 128.2.3esr (64-bit) running on Windows 10.

My Thunderbird shows the following folder tree Local Folders / MailStore Export / Outlook gmail / Organizations / _Service Providers / Health Providers / Cleveland Clinic (Sports Medicine Specialists) - Shelagh Baker - Mailstore says the folder contains 913 email messages - the folder shows as empty in Thunderbird

Windows Explorer has the following folder tree: C:\Users\Sam\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles\ardwce2w.default-esr\Mail\Local Folders\MailStore Export.sbd\Outlook gmail.sbd\Organizations.sbd\_Service Providers.sbd\Health Providers.sbd - this folder includes a 38 files that seems to represent the 19 email folders in the Health providers Thunderbird directory (two files per folder) - the two files representing the email folder "Cleveland Clinic (Sports Medicine Specialists) - Shelagh Baker" are "Cleveland Clinic (Sports Medicine Specialists) - Shelagh Baker" and "Cleveland Clinic (Sports Medicine Specialists) - Shelagh Baker.msf" - The Windows Explorer size of the first file (with no extension) is 213,019 KB; when I open this file, I can see text that matches the content of emails that I see in this same folder in Mailstore

My Conclusions: 1) The email "raw data" exists in the file system 2) For some reason, the Thunderbird client is not "seeing" these emails and thinks there are no emails in this folder.

Other Information: 1) I have stopped and restarted Thunderbird several times, but still no emails 2) At one time Thunderbird showed two folders named "Cleveland Clinic (Sports Medicine Specialists) - Shelagh Baker". Neither of these folders showed any emails. I deleted one of the folders from within Thunderbird. Later I noticed there were also two folders in the corresponding Windows Explorer directory. One was empty, so I deleted it (it is now in Windows Trash folder). The name is "Cleveland Clinic (Sports Medicine Specialists) 0554d8b9"

I'm hoping somebody can provide suggestions on what I can try so that the emails are visible within this folder. Thanks in advance!

This has happened before for Google accounts too.

Is there a fix?
