Reinstalled Tbird, put on pop. smtp.gmail.com, port 465, connection security ssl/tls, normal password for auth method and my username in the smtp server area. server settings pop.gmail.com port 995, username is right, connection security is ssl/tls, oauth2 for ath method. I was able to get/download a crapload of mails. Couldn't send, modified these settings on the app password created. All worked. Now I send but not receive. THink part of the problem is only calendar now has 3rd party access and not thunderbird. Can't find what else is wrong. When click get messages in tbird, i see my email address at the bottom, connected to pop.gmail.com... and nothing else.

Chosen solution

In order: delete the passwords in Tools/Options/Security/Passwords/Saved Passwords, then restart TB. Then: Set the authentication on both the incoming and outgoing servers to OAuth2 (TB 68.5 required) and enter the regular account password when prompted into the OAuth browser window.

Thanks.

Set the authentication on both the incoming and outgoing servers to OAuth2 (TB 68.5 required) and enter the regular account password when prompted into the OAuth browser window. Before that, delete the passwords in Tools/Options/Security/Passwords/Saved Passwords, then restart TB. An app password isn't needed with OAuth authentication.
