My wife sometimes gets into a situation while composing in Thunderbird when some keystrokes result in accented characters. The only way she can get out of it is to reboot the computer. Closing and restarting Thunderbird does not fix it. Other word processors are not affected when Thunderbird is misbehaving.

She thinks it may have something to do with the side of her hand pressing ctl or shift or both while pressing some other key.

Does somebody know how Thunderbird can get into such a state and/or how to get out of it?
