Asks for master password at random times

asks for master password at start up, with just enough delay to be annoying, then at seemingly random times asks for it again, if you just cancel firefox still goes happily along, a really annoying feature

This can also happen if you are using Sync.

The Sync version used in Firefox 34 and later uses the password manager to store the name (e-mail) and password to be used to connect to the Sync server.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window
