how to change the settings on an account?
I have hundreds of hours of work in creating filters and now I can’t seem to use them.
I recently change service providers and I now have two accounts under the same name that show up on my Thunderbird mail I edited the name of both of them sa as to differentiate but it appears to make no difference
The one is a Pop3 account which has all my old mai on it an the other is an iMap account which is the new one The new one is recieving mail as it should but I want all the old categories in the Pop3 account without having to recreate several hundred and the Filters that went along with it.
both accounts have the name [REMOVED BY MODERATOR]@shaw.ca but when I tried to change the pop3 to an imap account I could change the name but not the Server Type and the Server Port I changed to 993 but the Default port somehow changed to 995

You can't change a POP account to IMAP just by changing the settings. The IMAP account has to be added from File/New/Existing Mail Account.
http://kb.mozillazine.org/Convert_a_POP_account_to_a_IMAP_account
Copy the POP mail to Local Folders, remove the POP account from Account Actions in Tools/Account Settings, then add the account as IMAP.
Copy msgFilterRules.dat from the account subfolder of the POP account in the profile folder, e.g. Mail/pop.gmail.com, to the account subfolder of the IMAP account, e.g. ImapMail/imap.gmail.com, with TB closed. Help/Troubleshooting, Profile Folder, Show in Finder, to open the profile folder.
DEAR sfhows I am down to the moving the old email folders from one account to the other I tried copying the whole inbox the system just hung up So i began with the first folder in my inbox “1-DAVE (Self) Dores the folder I quickly send notes to myself in from other places on other computers This folder has 13 subfolders When I selected it and tried to use the Message “ Move To “ it created two of the 13 categories and moved about 10 files to the right category. Then it froze and the progress icon on the top bar stopped. I tried to move a section called “NOTES” and it would not let me I wound up creating a subfolder in the new account called XNOTES and then after opening ’NOTES” selected all the notes with command A and then used move to and they all moved and disappeared off the original account. When I tried the same procedure with “MyAir Reports” and used “Move To “ they would not transfer. When I repeated the steps after the progress icon stopped I had two copies of ever letter in the new file and all the originals in the original file. When I tried to move a directory in Dave called Delivered it would not let me create it in the new account or move or copy single or multiple files — Help I have 20 such directories and all have sub directories. is there no quicker way? Finally I don’t know how to determine if a file is local or not. and if not what would it be? and where would it be? I have been using thunderbird since it came out but this really has be flustered.
It appears you're trying to move messages from a POP account or Local Folders to IMAP folders. This will work with limited numbers of messages at a time, but moving entire folders (uploading to the IMAP mail server) will generally fail, as the IMAP protocol is not capable of mass uploads. Keep the old POP mail in Local Folders, or upload only those messages that need to be accessed from other devices, and only in small batches.
