When I go onto a web-site and click on an address, the new page is unstable and has loads of pop-ups, even though pop-ups are blocked in Firefox, and when I click the back arrow, I finish up at a different position on the original web page. Any help gratefully received ! Dickie43

Hello,

Is it only one site where you are experiencing this issue? If so, try extensions such as Adblock Plus to block those ads. The page might be redirecting you several times so if you click the Back button once, you are only in the middle of the chain of redirects.

If you are experiencing this issue on many sites, including Google or Wikipedia, check your extensions for anything suspicious that may have installed and remove them from your computer:

  • Tools (or New Fx Menu) > Add-ons > Extensions

Also check your list of installed programs in your Windows Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs list. Sometimes, malware is bundled with applications so if you sort by Install Date, you might be able to expose them.

It might also be safe to scan with free antimalware tools such as:

Many, many thanks CoryMH. The problem was happening on all web-pages and links, but following your advice and looking to the extensions and add-ons, I found a lot of non-native extns. & add-ons, but thankfully, apparently no malware. On deleting all the unknowns, FF is back to its beautiful best ! Dickie43
