I am in my account on Firefox version 38.0.5 and when I go into my settings I want to change some but they are greyed out. How do I get this so I can edit them? I went into preference in Firefox then down to Privacy and want to make some changes there but some of the areas such as clear history when Firefox close is greyed out. hOW DO i make changes in Firefox?

Thank you all that reply to me.

Chosen solution

You have a checkmark on the permissions Private Browsing mode setting ("Always use Private Browsing mode").

You need to exit PB mode to be able to use all currently blocked settings.

hi franick, in some instance preference will be greyed out if they have no effect/sense. when you have set firefox to always run in private browsing mode for example, the "clear history upon firefox close" option won't have any effect since you aren't storing any history in the first place...
