I'm triying to setup a POP3 email account and I'm getting the same error on GNU/Linux Mint with Thunderbird 31.8.0 and on Mac OS X with Thunderbird 38.2.0 . I can access my webmail without issues, and the same settings are working perfectly on Debian GNU/Linux with Icedove 31.7.0 .

Also, Thunderbird fails to fetch new mails from the server into the inbox. Doesn't give any error message, but new mails do not enter. Again, everything is there when entering the webmail interface.

Any thoughts?

Those error messages in the account wizard are not he best. the most common issue is a firewall blocking access, but it asks about passwords and user names.
