I have the email address wolfiesmith@gmail.com which I have used since February 2005. Over the last couple of months I have had emails from other services such as, and most recently Facebook and Dropbox, to set up accounts using this email address. I don't think there is and haven't seen any malicious intent in these attempts and indeed I assume they fail as they are asking me to confirm that I wish to set up these services. Two have been a bit more persistent in that I wasn't asked to confirm the setting up of the accounts and one of those two had no way of "unsubscribing" without knowing the password which of course I didn't. In both cases the emails eventually stopped so I assume that the recipient had changed the email address to the "correct" one.

If you could confirm that there is no duplicate account I can at least continue with my present course of action.

Thanks and Regards

Colin Smith

Thunderbird is just an email client program running on your computer, so this is not something to do with thunderbird. Someone in the world is trying to use your email address to set up accounts on various servers eg: Facebook.

That person may have discovered your email address in a public forum and decided to try to abuse it to their own ends. Maybe they are a fan of 'Citizen Smith' or Robert Lindsay and thought they would try to use the character name, either way unfortunately there is not a lot you can do about that unknown persons' acts other than what you have already done. Hopefully they will realise it's not working and give up their attempts.
