Hi, I am trying to access my outlook mail using thunderbird. My organisation uses 2 step verification. I have been using this with thunderbird in the last 2 years. They have now shut down the pop and imap servers, claiming it does not support 2 step verification. The message I get is "user is authenticated but not connected".

Is there a way to continue to access my outlook account using thunderbird. BC

Chosen solution

Since you state that POP and IMAP are shut down, I infer this is an Exchange account. There are two addons, Exquilla or Owl, that support Exchange email. Neither is free, but neither is expensive.

POP and IMAP support 2-step verification, if an app password is used in the mail app instead of the regular account password.

hi sfhowes, thanks for your reply. Yes, you are correct, I have indeed been using 2 step verification for well over a year now and it worked great. the issue is that the organisation shut the pop and imap servers off so I cannot continue to access email the way I have been.

Thanks David, I loaded Exquilla and it basically knew what was going on straight away. Asked my to log in and put in a verification code and it worked. It did cost a little bit but not much and worth it to keep using TBird and not use outlook! Thanks, this was as simple a solution I could have hoped for.
