I downloaded Firefox again and installed it. In the plugins list there is now a plugin called getPlusPlus for Adobe 16291. What is this?

Some garbage extension for Firefox that Adobe came up with, that supposedly handles Adobe plugin updates through Firefox. It's been faulty for some recent updates, and for some users it has caused other problems with Firefox.

Best to avoid it altogether, and when you need to update Adobe Flash or Reader download the new version. Then close Firefox and un-install the old program and install the new version. If you turn off JavaScript before going to the Adobe website to download either program, you won't be offered that useless (IMO) getPlusPlus for Adobe extension and you'll be offered the download of the Adobe program you want for "offline" installation.
