Saving favorite websites is driving me crazy. None of it is intuitive. I don't need an answer that is laced with FF specific jargon. Plane English terms such as website, menu, etc. not tags, etc. Put the answer in IE terms that I have used for years.

Hi, to bookmark a page: When you click on the star, the bookmark, by default, will go into Other Bookmarks (prior to v48 known as Unsorted Bookmarks); however if you wish it to go to a different destination, keep your mouse pointer over the dialog box to prevent it from disappearing, then use the upper, downward pointing arrow on the far right, to select a destination > Done.

Note, in Firefox, Favorites are called Bookmarks.

If your question is resolved by this or another answer, please take a minute to let us know. Thank you!

When I click on the down arrow I get a box that says, Bookmarks Menu, Bookmarks Tool Bar, and Other Bookmarks. Clicking on them results in nothing. I have a lot of favorites saved and can use them, but I can't save more to the many categories that I have organized them into.

Can you open the edit this bookmark dialog by clicking the star on the toolbar?

In this dialog there are two arrows on the Folder line. In the list that opens if you click the first arrow you notice a Choose item that you can click to open the folder list. The second arrow at the far right always opens this full folder list. You can create a new folder or select a specific folder to save the bookmark in the selected folder.

Note that you can drag a tab to the Bookmarks Toolbar or to the star to bookmark the current tab.

None off what you say happens. I get blanks on either arrow. On the first arrow I get Bookmarks Toolbar, Bookmarks Menu, and Other Bookmarks. Clicking on those gets nothing. On the second arrow I get a blank window with no choices. HELP!!!

You can save a bookmark in Firefox both by clicking the star button you find to the right of the URL and by pressing down CTRL+D (CMD+D, for Mac) and selecting where you want to save it.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Appearance
  • do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window

You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database (bookmarks and history) in the Firefox profile folder.
